Researching the Genealogy of Linwood

alt="Genealogy above an illustrative style tree branch"

The library has many resources for the genealogist looking to learn more about ancestors, local history, etc. We have a few options for you to consider:

Obituary Index

The Linwood Community Library Obituary Index, prepared and updated by library staff, includes information for individuals associated with the Linwood area. The information in this index has been pulled from area newspapers and funeral homes and spans the 1800s to the present day. Many of the individuals listed are buried locally. Other people have ties to Linwood but are buried elsewhere.

Printed Records

Stored at the library in our history room, we have many print versions of items like obituaries (and an index), Linwood High School yearbooks, phone book directories, family histories, and other local history items. If you’d like to browse through any of the cabinets, give us a call at 913-301-3686 to set up an appointment time.

Find a Grave

Find a Grave is a national website with a searchable database that allows users to search for burial and memorial information for the deceased. The information and photos are added by thousands of member contributors, one of which is The Linwood Community Library. We add and update information for those people who have connections to the Linwood and surrounding areas, in one way or another.

Online Database

We also have an online database where you can search for people associated with Linwood and the surrounding areas. A person’s record will often include a digital photo of their obituary, grave site, or other information.
